After a six month absence due to COVID-19, and following Trustee meetings, volunteer training, absorbing lots of new advice and many risk assessments, the TN22 Plus Club opened on 21st October 2020. I don’t know who was more excited – volunteers, members or their carers! Sadly some of our members were not able to return to us, so we were a smaller in number, but we made up for that in enthusiasm, clapping and chatting albeit behind masks and visors.
Suzanne, from Dementia Support East Sussex, got our day off to an excellent start with singing and ‘chair dancing’ – socially distanced. Ever tried dancing to ‘Lets twist Again’ sitting on a chair? Our members loved it though, and kicked, stamped and ‘danced’ with vigour! They completely understood that dancing together was not sensible.
After a lovely lunch, members enjoyed individual craft activities followed by a much needed cup of tea and cake. We had to remember to remove our visors to eat!
The Trustees, volunteers and our managers, Wendy and Amanda, worked so hard to ensure that both clubs were COVID secure, and seeing the delight our members got in returning and enjoying the company and laughter, was really heart warming.
Both TN22 clubs will continue to open as long as rules allow.
